Our Story

On May 4, 2007, a record EF-5 tornado physically swept away the City of Greensburg. But it didn’t touch the spirit or ingenuity of its pioneering residents.

Greensburg is back-bigger, better and “greener” than ever. Taking the opportunity to truly start over, the city is in rebuilding faster, more efficiently and with an eye toward innovation that creates a business and residential environment that can’t be found anywhere else in the world.

And Greensburg is much more than just green. It’s location on busy Hwy. 54/400 offers business and industrial opportunities from a base in southwest Kansas that puts you, well, right in the center of everything.

If you’re looking for a fresh start, Greensburg is your place.

In Greensburg, Kansas, there’s something very special about living in America’s Heartland. We’re much more than just a home on the High Plains, where fields of golden wheat, sunflowers and sunny big blue skies are a deep part of who we are.

We embrace the concepts of family, faith, goodness and beliefs that make us who we are. Although we look back on nature’s devastating tornado of May 4, 2007 as a true tragedy, it’s also an opportunity of sorts. An opportunity for us to reach deep down inside to our pioneer roots and pull up a postive, vital, exciting vision of the future. It was that challenge from God and nature that has made us stronger, more resillient and more hopeful.

And it’s with that hope that we joyfully continue to rebuild our lives in the fashion to which we’re accustomed. Small town values, safety, security, understanding, forgiveness and broad-thinking that would make our pioneer ancestors proud. For we truly are modern pioneers with a new vision. A vision that isn’t duplicated anywhere else in the world.

As we continue to build and grow, we recognize the opportunity to respect the nature that surrounds us, by rebuilding ourselves as a green, ecologically-sound, sustainable community. As we rebuild our lives and our community, we are concious of energy conservation, recycling, wind-power, geothermal energy, green construction techniques. We can almost say that out of tragedy came an understanding that many other communities don’t have.

We now know our place in the world. It’s even in our name. GREENsburg!

If you value our values the way we do, there’s only one place in the world to be. America’s GREEN Heartland home… Greensburg, Kansas.
